In the years 1955–60, to facilitate water supply to the power plant in Skawina, a barrage was built in Łączany. The pool created on the Vistula became a natural habitat for various bird species. The Łączany reservoir is the largest winter bird habitat on the upper Vistula. In the period of spring and autumn flights it is an important stopping place for migrant birds. Such a great number of bird species has not been seen on any other water spot in south-eastern Poland. The presence of 138 bird species was stated around Łączany.
