The monument was built to commemorate heroic residents of Świątniki, who throughout the centuries fought and fell in wars, uprisings and the struggle “for your freedom and ours” or died in death camps. The stories of many such people can be found in historic accounts about Świątniki Górne. They participated in many historic events, beginning from the Napoleonic Wars (Somosierra), through national uprisings, until the Second World War (Monte Cassino, Katyn). The monument was unveiled and blessed on 11 November 2000, on the Polish Independence Day. The central figure of the monument is St Queen Jadwiga, the patron of Świątniki Górne. The monument stands at Brzuchnalskiego street, in the close vicinity of the Parish Cemetery. It has become a special memorial site. Next to the monument there is an obelisk commemorating the 382th cemetery of the Kraków Fortress, established after bloody fights in December 1914. The monument was erected thanks to the effort of the Świątniki Górne Friends Society.
